If  an illness is detected at an early stage and treated quickly, the chances of recovery are much higher. Health checkups detect problems at an early stage.

Health checkups for infants

An infant should be checked by a doctor at least eight times till the infant is one year old - as a newborn, two to four days, by the first month, second , fourth, sixth, ninth and twelfth month.

Doctor visits in the 15th, 18th and 24th month after birth are also recommended.

The doctors immunize the infant ,check for abnormalities, monitor the growth (increase in height and weight) and counsel the parent.

For older children, an annual health checkup is recommended. Immunization records, height and weight , blood pressure, pulse and heart rate are checked.

Eye checkups are also advisable, especially if  the child finds it difficult to read from the blackboard.

Dental checkups are usually done twice a year.
